Position description

Job title

R&D Trainee System Tester (simulation for softwaretesting) M/F

Profile

Within Customized Energy Systems which is part of the Exide Technologies group
we have our core software which controls the Battery Energy Storage System
(BESS). These systems are build up from different peripherals. We require a model for each peripheral such that we can build a representative system in a model which we can used for software testing. The aim of the project is to create a simulation through which we can test our core software before releasing it. This will greatly improve our software validation options.

Currently our core software is not tested against systems in the field but only
rigorously tested against software tests. The disadvantage of this is that the
peripherals can through up different results which are not covered in a software test.

Assignment description / Deliverables:
• Create a platform for automated system tests which can be reliably
repeated
• Create models which simulate different peripherals (Batteries,
converters, meters, HVACs, etc) (propose to use: Open Modelica,
SciLab or similar)
• Be able to add different scenarios - the platform should be scalable
• Scalable: first versions of the peripherals should be improved on
at a later stage
• Introduce different errors at different peripherals
Suggestions for software framework to use:
• Python
• Robot framework
• Behave
• pytest

Student Profile
• HBO or MSc student in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Data Science,
AI, or Embedded/Industrial Software.
• Interest in battery systems, energy storage, or smart energy solutions.
• Experience with or interest in Python, data analysis, and basic machine
learning.
• Linux software development, test mind set, problem solving
• Analytical mindset, able to structure complex technical problems.
• Comfortable working with real operational data.

We offer

• A technically challenging project at the forefront of integrated testing in energy
storage.
• Direct exposure to real BESS systems and operational challenges.
• Guidance from experienced R&D engineers.
• Flexibility in project depth depending on HBO or MSc level.
• A project well suited for thesis, internship, or graduation assignment.

Location: Helmond (hybrid possible)
Duration: In line with HBO / MSc internship requirements
